TEHRAN -- A top priority of Iran's foreign policy is to enhance cooperation with regional countries, particularly its neighbors, Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi said on Thursday.
"We attach great importance to regional cooperation, and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) is one of the active organizations for regional cooperation where the Islamic Republic of Iran will have an active presence," Raisi told reporters upon his departure to the Tajik capital of Dushanbe to attend the upcoming SCO summit. MOSCOW -- The Russia-led Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) said Thursday that it is ready, if necessary, to "take effective measures" to ensure security at the southern borders of the organization, referring to the situation in Afghanistan as "alarming."
"We stand for the establishment of Afghanistan as a peaceful and independent state, free from terrorism and drugs," the CSTO's Collective Security Council said in a declaration following a CSTO summit in the Tajik capital of Dushanbe. (CSTO-Afghanistan)

ADEN, Yemen -- Fighting has intensified in Yemen's central province of al-Bayda as the Houthi militia continued in gaining on-ground military progress on Thursday, a military official told Xinhua.
